Building Hope Nevada, a local 501c3 community development corporation, in partnership with St Jude’s Ranch for Children (SJR), has engaged LGA in the development of an affordable housing project for transitioning youth. The $2.1 million facility was funded through HUD’s Supportive Housing Program and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
The 9,800 s.f., single-story building is situated on one acre and features fifteen 450 s.f. studio apartments, one 450 s.f. residential manager’s apartment, a 1,700-square-foot clubhouse, central courtyard, and parking. A multipurpose room with break area, laundry room, technology room, offices, and restrooms are located in the clubhouse.
This supportive housing program provides a range of services to help young adults, ages 18 to 25, who were homeless achieve self-sufficiency. Services may include individual case management; employment, education, and/or transportation assistance; and discharge planning, among others. The process is typically successful within nine months; however, clients who follow their lease agreement (which is tied to a case management plan), may remain in an SJR Crossings apartment for up to 24 months.
